If you live in a subdivision, development, or condo, chances are you have to deal with an HOA (Homeowners Association). While the goal of any HOA is to protect the value of your land by enforcing the rules, sometimes those rules can seem a bit unfair to those who like to grow their own food especially with COVID19. Some communities limit gardening to back or side yards only, while others prohibit it altogether. (Of course, if you’re lucky, your HOA may not have any limits on growing edibles.) Before you plan or plant your garden, here are five things to consider:

1. Find out what’s allowed

Your first step to co-existing peacefully with both your neighborhood and the HOA is to know what regulations you’re expected to abide by. Read all bylaws, covenants, and deeds. These can sometimes be found in your mortgage documents, or you may request a copy from your HOA. In addition, many associations now post these documents online. If you are considering a move to a new neighborhood with an HOA, ask for a copy of the bylaws before you commit, so you’ll know what you’re getting into.

2. Know your limits

If you’re new to the community, find out how strict your association is by asking neighbors how the bylaws are enforced. If you overstep your boundaries, will you be charged a costly fine or just receive a courtesy call? Some HOAs are relatively laid-back and might consider making changes to existing laws. Others, however, are more strict and may even have the power to foreclose on a home.

Try these suggestions:

• Add flowering trees such as crabapples and cherries.
• Replace annuals with peppers or kale, depending on the season.
• Line walks and paths with a fragrant, beautiful herbs such as parsley, dill, and lavender.
• Train tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers and other willing-to-climb veggies on trellises painted to match your home’s trim. Nestle them among sunny perennials and shrubs to add interest and texture (as well as camouflauge).
• Get creative with containers. Pair Swiss chard with pansies, mint with marigolds. Fill hanging baskets with strawberries rather than geraniums.
• Go above and beyond the call of duty to keep the yard looking great at all times.

David has followed Genesis in its various formats since 1974 and like many feels thats the Bands Glory years were from 1971 to 1977. With the departure of Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel the bands music evolved and we followed them all even with their solo projects right through to present time. In particular we had kept up with both Steve & Peters work and music always in the hope the band would reunite and re visit the hey days of Genesis. Sadly it was never to happen and we believe the BBCs latest documentary on the band was the final nail in the coffin. Are we sad ? yes of course in a way we are...... but from the closure of that chapter has emerged Steve Hackett along with Nad Sylvan taking on the former roles once held by Collins and Gabriel . Even more astonishing is Nad Sylvans performance stepping in to what can only be described as the toughest and most demanding and anticipated vocal role in the history of Music.Nad not only delivers but in our view surpasses the vocal skills of the former two singers bringing his truly unique vocal abilities to the world stage and we felt that the music sounded perhaps like Steve had wanted it to sound back in the days when he was with the original band line up of Genesis . We noted several elements changed and solo patterns altered . It was a trip down memory lane and one that will remain with us for many years to come. Nad you have carved your name in Rocks hall of fame and you rightly deserve the success you are getting recognition for .............Moving on to the band

Legendary guitarist Steve Hackett had announced his Genesis Extended Tour, featuring a selection of classics to include some of the gems he had to sacrifice on the Award winning Genesis Revisited live shows. With a career and repertoire spanning decades between Genesis and his outstanding solo work, this will be the last opportunity for fans to see Hackett perform a whole set from the seminal prog band's catalogue.

An enthusiastic Steve Hackett explains: "Due to the success of the Genesis Revisited shows, in 2014 we're extending both the dates and the concept. We'll launch into a full Genesis set with favourites from this year such as The Musical Box, Dancing with the Moonlit Knight and Supper's Ready along with the addition of other Genesis classics which are often requested and the audiences deserve to hear... I'm really excited about this!"

Steve Hackett was Genesis' guitarist from 1971 to 1977 and is the first ex-member to re-record and tour that part of the band's material in Genesis Revisited I (1996) and II (2012). Taking the stage again with Steve Hackett is an exceptional team of top class musicians, including Roger King (Gary Moore, Snoop Doggie Dog, Jamelia) on keyboards, Gary O'Toole (Kylie Minogue, Chrissie Hynde) on drums, percussion and vocals, Rob Townsend (Eddie Henderson, Bill Bruford, Django Bates) on sax, flute and percussion, Nick Beggs (Kim Wilde, Steven Wilson) on bass & twelve string and Nad Sylvan on vocals.

The Genesis Extended Show will visit some of the locations that Genesis Revisited missed, and will also return to London where the two previous dates - Hammersmith Apollo and Royal Albert Hall - completely sold out. It will be a chance to celebrate the success of theGenesis Revisited - Live at Hammersmith CD/DVD box set and Hackett's recent Prog Award for best Live Event, again for that famous Hammersmith night.

Talking about Hackett's astounding live performance, Classic Rock Prog magazine wrote: 'a faithful, inspired trip down memory lane which reaffirms the majesty of many of progs defining moments. Hearing a packed house inquire in unison, 'A flower?' is a spine-tingling experience'; 'spine-tingling' was also the word used by the Newcastle' Chronicle to describe the brilliance of his guitar solo, while Fireworks called the show 'magnificent in every respect' and Classic Rock Society defined it as 'two hours and a half of pure joy for any Genesis fan'. The Daily Mail was particularly impressed with Steve's band, able to'match the studio recordings and even improve on them'.

Tuck your car away in one of three secure garages before stepping out onto the approach to your own fortress of solitude. The only sound you'll hear is the soft crunch of gravel beneath your feet.  Freshen up in the quirkiest of washroom, where ornate mirrors and traditional wooden surrounds are counterbalanced delightfully by box-fresh gadgets that add a little more convenience to your convenience. We won't spoil the surprise, suffice to say that though this may be one of the smallest rooms in the estate, its idiosyncrasies make it one of our - and the current owner's - favourite rooms.

 Steal a glance up at the enticing returning staircase as we head towards the first welcoming reception room.

Allow your guests or business associates the opportunity to pause a while and unencumber their feet by sinking down into an inviting leather armchair, stretch out by the ornate wooden fireplace and spend a few mindful moments observing the Clown fish and the Tangs flit about amongst the undulating corals of your aquarium. Every night can be a red-carpet premiere as the screen drops down and the lights dim in this smart and swanky hideaway.

Time to explore the sleeping arrangements in this quintessentially quirky castle. Nestled behind the dining room and accessed from the homely sitting room without, you find an amply-sized guest bedroom. Older relatives can enjoy all the opulence of the castle and its mesmeric views without the need to venture upstairs. Step through into the ensuite shower room. Made with treated wood of German design that doesn't warp, turn on the taps and soak up the steam. Breathe deep for an almost Nordic spa style experience. Heaven.

Follow us back to the striking returning staircase, light teems in through the window and from the shining chandeliers above, as a watchful stag mounted on the wall approves your ascension to the first floor of this beguiling build.

Welcome to your opulent living room. To your left is the pièce de résistance, a round-arched window that opens out to a balcony overlooking the expansive grounds of the castle. Take a moment to look out over your own Eden. From here you can see the surrounding fells of the majestic Clywydian Range.

Castle life isn't all play and no work, but fortunately your neat and discreet office also overlooks the splendour of your grounds, enabling you to conduct your business affairs in the midst of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

When it's time to turn off the laptop, step out the office door and to your right. It's time to explore your inner sanctum: the master suite.

Let your feet sink into the plush, lavish carpet and marvel at the deluxe wallpaper. Take the weight off your feet in the restful window seat. This cavernous space makes no compromise on home comforts, from custom built-in wardrobes through to the dressing room into the expansive main bedroom, where a four-poster behemoth bed invites you to recumbence in cleverly curated style. This king-size bedroom oozes sophistication and grown up glamour and is, quite simply, our favourite bedroom in the house.

Family and friends will be squabbling over who gets to spend the night here, with its magical, princess in the tower appeal. Your visitors will feel utterly spoiled in their own secluded keep as they prepare for dinner at the regal oak dressing table, a part of the hand crafted furniture designed specifically for this room.

Send your 'tower guests' off for an afternoon's adventure, strolling around the 47 acres of glorious grounds, where they can capture the delights of Shell House, the carved faces of Idris Williams and co, and an intricate giant eagle carved from the stump of a 200 year tree lost to a gale. Upon their return, they can freshen up in the stately ensuite and pick a suitable outfit from the accompanying dressing room ready for an evening's entertainment of regaling you with tales of their exploits.

Follow us one flight further, as we continue upward to the third floor, where two more delectable guest rooms eagerly await your presence. Children will delight in sharing the twin room with its own ensuite on the uppermost level of this enchanted tower. The enthralling double room is so agreeable, with its dual aspect views to both the picturesque pond and the wild Welsh mountains.

Of course there is no shortage of space for guests at Castell Gyrn. In addition to the six bedrooms within the castle, a guest lodge sits alluringly next door, while Panorama, a palladian two bedroomed self-contained cottage, stands on the crest of the hill offering resplendent views of the valley.

Those with a head for heights will be thrilled at what awaits above. At the push of a button, a retractable roof recedes to a window of pure blue skies. You have arrived at the heavenly roof terrace, surely the most breathtaking spot in the castle. Gaze out to the distant sea, where the eagle eyed can spot the wind turbines standing like guards on the horizon. On a clear day, observe the splendour of Snowdon, Wales' highest mountain.

With so much to explore at your fingertips, the temptation to remain stationed within your bountiful boundaries may be tempting, but allow us to entice you out and about to discover the allure of your locality.

After a hard day's work being a castellan, why not shrug off the title and head to The Druid Inn, a traditional tavern in Llanferres, which radiates a warm welcome and a fine selection of lagers and ales, alongside homely pub grub.

The nearby market town of Ruthin boasts several restaurants of good reputation, with every amenity necessary including an excellent butchers and a handy Tescos.
